Many turned up to see Alan Newton, Offerton’s own Olympian, along with the mayor Chris Gordon open the Alan Newton Way.

In spite of showers, many cyclists, people from Marple, senior officials, councillors and others witnessed the event near the site of the old  Marple Hall.  This is the start of miles of easy, road-free cycling to Bredbury that should soon extent to the centre of Stockport.
