The council have bought the home of Stockport County as a local asset for all, securing the ground’s future.
Councillor Iain Roberts, Deputy Leader of Stockport Council, said “This is a genuinely commercial arrangement which will enable a landlord-tenant relationship to be set-up between the Council and Stockport County Football Club. This purchase is on a cost neutral basis and will therefore not cost Stockport Council Tax payers a penny.”
County’s senior advisor to the Board of Directors, Steve Bellis commented “This is a momentous day for everyone involved with Stockport County Football Club. The security and stability that this gives the Club just ahead of the start of a new season cannot be underestimated. Edgeley Park is a great asset that will earn the Council and therefore the people of Stockport a commercial return. We look forward to continuing to put this wonderful town on the map.”
