Roadworks

by Geoff Abell on 23 July, 2017

This months road works notice starts with the big one – the council are shutting the A6 to repair the road viaduct south of Mersey Sq to the Garrick Theatre for up to 12 weeks.  (see elsewhere for diversions)  It is planned to allow push bikes through.  Contractors waited until St Mary’s Way works were finished, widening that road to 2 lanes either way.  And Greek St is also open.  But please allow extra time for your journey.

Between 31 July and 11 Aug, there are road works on Longhurst Lane, east of the junction with Knowle Road (to Mellor School).  Traffic lights will be in force.

People working for  United Utilities will be doing the second half of a lead pipe disconnection and replacement on Windlehurst Road, Marple, near the junction with Torkington Lane. These works are scheduled to take place from 24th July to 25th July and will require the use of temporary traffic signals.

PS emergency gas repairs at the junction of Arkwright with Oldknow and Stone Row will take longer than expected – possibly the 3 Aug.

Thank you for the roadworks message, I did know about it, but thanks anyway. However if you wanted to perform a really useful service along these lines a list of ALL the Stockport road works would be brilliant. The ones I have noticed but don’t know the full details are :- High Lane Village, Greek Street, plus the two you have mentioned and the ones associated with the Airport relief road. Are there any others?

Thank you for your considered reply. I try to share with local residents those that are big or quite local. We are not informed of all Stockport-wide roadworks I am afraid, and even if we were, it’d make for a very long list! Many roadworks are planned for summer, when traffic is less. But I appreciate June and July have seen quite a lot, particularly on the roads towards Cheshire.
