Feb roadworks and road improvement plans

by Geoff Abell on 31 January, 2018

Across the borough there are a number of roadworks.

  1. The A555 westbound will be shut for 17 weeks from Mon 12th Feb (from A34 junction towards Heald Green) due to drainage problems.  Officers also tell us that in spite of the collapse of Carillion, the rest of the new road is still being built and hope for completion this year.
  2. On St Mary’s Way (the link between the A6 and M60) work is still going on at the junction with the motorway and also at Hall St.
  3. The emergency road works needed by Cadent Gas on the Offerton side of 17 Windows should be finished by 8th Feb.

For more details on Stockport town centre roadworks please see the SMBC website

More locally, there are temporary traffic lights on Glossop Road to repair a broken retaining wall.  Due to finish 23rd Feb

From 5th to 16th February, Longhurst Lane near Cataract Bridge will see temp lights too whilst flood drainage problems are rectified.

Windlehurst Road is having electricity cables put in between Ridge Crescent and Torkington; due to complete 1st March, there will be temp lights here too.

And finally Church Lane Marple (between Stockport Road and Leigh Av) will see a new electricity cable installed between 26th Feb and 2nd March.

Hollins Green Road (off Station Road) will see double yellow lines soon to prevent parked cars choking access to the first narrow part of that road.

All 3 councillors from Marple North have met to try and alleviate the Town St bottleneck at rush hour.

And as of today, the Labour exec member for roads has agreed that car park charges near Marple and Romiley stations will not be implemented in the next council budget.  Any future proposed changes have proper consultation with residents and groups.

Marple has some new mobile speed cameras that can help in reducing speeds.  They are currently up at the first site on Arkwright Road/Oldknow Road.

I would like to see either the Council or GMP enforce no parking on the Strines rd with jct with Oldknow rd getting out of Oldknow is Dangerous looking left.please see to this as I have asked many times. PS its 3 points and fine TS20 but the police dont seem to be interested.

Thanks for that Jon – I agree with you!
Because there are double white lines (as opposed to double yellow lines) it is a criminal offence rather than council enforcement.

However highways and all local cllrs suggested putting a notice reminding vehicles that parking there was dangerous and illegal. Currently this idea is awaiting police approval.

    Hi
Could you give me an explanation as to why St Mary’s project has/is taking so long to complete?
Also could you furnish me with the cost of the project
    Regards
