Roadworks, roadworks – not good news

by Geoff Abell on 3 April, 2018

Cadent still have a gas leak on Brabyns and are now trying to repair a new section.  They “hope to be finished by 16 April”.   Be aware I am asking questions about the long time this is taking.

Windlehurst Road roadworks are now being extended to 13 April.

Be prepared for more delays…

Because of  the emergency gas works on Brabyns Brow, the planned United Utilities works between the junctions of Stockport Road and Parkside Avenue have now been rescheduled to take place on Sunday 8th April.  There will be a signed diversion route in place; the diversion route is:
Stockport Road, Strines Road, Arkwright Road, Station Road.

In addition in Compstall, contractors working on behalf of United Utilities will be installing a new meter on Compstall Brow, Compstall near to the junction with Cowlishaw  Road.  These works are scheduled to take place 03/04/2018-13/04/2018 and will require the use of temporary traffic signals.  The signals will be in use between the hours of 09:30 & 15:30 and will be manually controlled for both the first and last hour each day.

Contractors working on behalf of the electricity company ENW will be carrying out essential maintenance work on Glossop Road, Marple Bridge near to Woodheys Cottages.  These works are scheduled to take place on 16/04/2018 between the hours of 09:30 & 15:30 and will require the use of temporary traffic signals

9th -10th April: Strines Road, Strines

Contractors working on behalf of BT will be undertaking works to replace a pole on Strines Road, Strines, between the junctions of Plucksbridge Road and Station Road. These works are scheduled to take place on 9th April and 10th April and will require the use of temporary traffic signals between 9:30 am and 3.00 pm only

6th -11th April: Fairacres Road / Andrew Lane, High Lane

Contractors working on behalf of United Utilities are repairing a leaking main on Fairacres Road, High Lane at the junction with Andrew Lane.  These emergency works are scheduled to be completed by 11th April and require the use of temporary traffic signals for the duration of these works.

Geoff. The Cadent misery on Brabyn’s Brow rolls ever on and on. What on earth are they doing? There is hardly ever anyone actually working in their holes. Do Cadent just have a blank cheque to work as slowly (and cheaply) as they feel like? What are local councilors doing about this other than ‘asking questions’?

I am fed up too and the local shops even more so. The project manager promised to try to get these old cast iron pipes (3 of them!) replaced and SMBC and the 3 Marple N cllrs are arranging a meeting with them.
