Marple Pool and other matters

by Geoff Abell on 17 August, 2023

Good afternoon

A couple of local matters I wish to raise, please see below:

Marple Pool (New)

Letters will be sent to households from the Council from August 21st outlining a series of events. These include public drop in discussion sessions on September the 12th and 19th at Marple library and further to this there drop in library sessions and there will be online discussions available, further information will be in the letters and from us when we have any official details to promulgate.

Local groups will also be invited to meet with Council officers.

Marple Library

The library will only close when a new location for the temporary library is confirmed. Because of the limited sizes available there will be a reduced amount of books on display but others can still be ordered. We will keep residents informed on this matter.

Marple pool (old)

This is subject to legal processes and as such a statement has been requested from SMBC has been requested to clear up and hopefully answer any concerns over ownership/covenants etc. Please bear with us whilst this is processed

I appreciate that some on here have stated that the pool will not go ahead and we will be left with nothing. Added to this is a belief that councillors have gone quiet on the matter. I wish to make it clear that as your local councillors we have worked tirelessly to secure to £20,000,000 funding and are delighted to have this ready for our community. The pool will go ahead and as it stands with a timeline we are looking at autumn of 2025 for the facility to be up and running. We also have not gone quiet, it was easier to make note of comments on here and try and answer in one statement.

Other news:

The new stop sign is in place near the Windsor Castle, thanks to all the community for their patience with this matter. Jo at the Windsor has been a big help as has the many residents who signed the petition. I have asked when the lines will be complete and hopefully they will be very soon.

There has been a spike in excessive speeding around the area especially at weekends. I have been in touch with our local inspector and requested officers when possible be more visible and hopefully this will reduce the problem but carry out enforcement where needed. This is the same for illegal motorbikes which continue to plague our area like so many other places.

Finally, Cadent on Stockport Road. I am very grateful for the patience of so many who have had to sit in queues (me included) whilst the work takes place. Whilst it is disruptive it is much better being done in the holidays, this is why it was programmed in such a way. I have spoken to Cadent and asked if anything can be done to speed the process up.

With kind regards as always

Steve

on behalf of the councillors of Marple North and South.
