Greater Manchester housing plans and Marple / High Lane

by Geoff Abell on 10 January, 2019

The second go at planning for the next 20 years across Gtr Manchester – the GMSF – has been announced.
Overall the perceived number of houses needed for Stockport has reduced by 10%.
So what is in the plan for Stockport?
With a proposed “urban village” in the West of the town centre, and more use of reused sites,
the demand for spaces on green belt is much reduced, but it is still there.

In summary for Stockport
Bredbury Park Industrial Estate expansion to stay the same.
Woodley – 250-home development in disused Unity Mill.
Heald Green – 2000 house suggestion reduced to 850; 3700-house developments off Handforth bypass much reduced too.
Romiley – 250 new homes on Tangshutt Fields near the Cherry Tree estate.
High Lane – 4000-house development reduced to 500 both sides of the A6.
The GM mayor said there is a possibility of a new station at High Lane.

There is currently no proposal to develop any site in Marple North or Marple in general.

Most sites have a significant amount of proposed “affordable” housing.

There is a consultation running from 21 Jan until summer. We’ll provide a link when it’s available.

i dont think they shoud build any houses on high lane – there is enough traffic already

  2. Marjorie Doyle says:

High Lane is a bottle neck of traffic volume – a nightmare. The new road development seems to have made it even worse. We do not need any more housing to add to the chaos.
