Here are some of the latest updates.
Waste collection
Refuse collections are likely to be reduced or changed due to staff shortages due to Coronavirus. A number of drivers are self-isolating and new drivers trained and recruited. The Council will be taking decisions on a day to day basis as to which rounds will be able to run. Black bins will be the priority. For latest updates see the Council website: https://www.stockport.gov.uk/
The Council are advising you to put your bins out for collection as normal and if they are not collected, they will try to collect them the week after.
Council Buildings
The majority of council buildings are now closed. Some community and children’s centres have remained open for services that support vulnerable people and key workers.
Support for the extra vulnerable
People who are considered to be at the highest risk of Coronavirus will be advised to shield themselves and stay at home for 12 weeks. Those that fall into this category will be written to by their GP. The government guidance states that anyone who feels they fall into this category and has not received a letter by Sunday 29 March 2020 should contact their GP or hospital clinician.
If you have a medical condition that makes you extremely vulnerable to coronavirus or know someone in this situation please ensure that you register for support. For example, you’ll be able to ask for help getting deliveries of essential supplies like food. If you’re not sure whether your medical condition makes you extremely vulnerable, register anyway.
You can register yourself, or on behalf of someone else. https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable
The Council together with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority are working on plans to distribute essential supplies, and potentially medicines, to those people that have been identified by the NHS as being most vulnerable. Vulnerable children, families and adults are being contacted to ensure checks are made on peoples wellbeing.

There is also access to support with CV’s, advice and guidance.

Almost all visiting has had to been stopped to NHS premises. Please read more about it before you consider visiting http://www.stockport.nhs.uk/news_14429

If you are aware of any premises contravening Government guidelines (e.g. a pub staying open), this can be reported to environmental.health@stockport.gov.uk
Transport
Bus services are being temporarily changed to help combat the coronavirus. For example, from Wednesday the 383/383 is being reduced to a 20 minute frequency. The majority of changes affect Mon – Fri services while Sat + Sun services remain largely unaffected.

Northern Rail have implemented new timetables to focus on enabling key workers to travel. Do check the new timetable before you travel.
(While non-essential travel is being discouraged, peak time restrictions on concessionary tram and bus passes will be lifted during the early morning rush hour from Friday 20 March onwards to make it easier for the region’s older citizens and disabled people to get their shopping or to attend a medical appointment.)
