Resurfacing in Marple South- message from Cllr Aron Thornley

by Malcolm Allan on 15 November, 2020

I met with highway engineer Kevin Dowd last week. He talked me through some of the local roadworks and we inspected some of the work on Barlow Crescent, Lynton Drive and Keswick Rd. Kevin explained to me the difference between work that has been done with micro-asphalt , slurry and tarmac; this does make the work in various areas in the ward look different. There are structurally sound roads that required only a preventative measure involving micro-asphalt and others that needed more work. I have driven most of the repaired roads recently and I believe most of the work is impressive. There are roads where the work crews need to return to cut out sections of the road where drains and manhole covers knowingly still exist – this is all part of the ongoing process. The loose gravel on some surfaces is an expected part of the work and will be swept off as the surface settles in. The micro-asphalt takes time to bed down and should be completely settled in by Spring. If you have any concerns about any of the roadworks in your area of Marple South and High Lane ward please feel free to contact me on 07951973792.
