Stockport Council believes that decisions affecting local areas are taken locally.
That’s why we have a Marple Area Committee that does many things such as allocation of local money, presentations and deciding on some planning applications.
But in order to make the process more accessible, councillors and officers now meet with residents more informally before the meeting starts. And there are a series of Open Forums, starting with Marple Parking and then Neighbourhood Planning (see above).
Neighbourhood Planning aims to give residents a voice in shaping planning and in the way Marple will look in the future. There was a week-long exhibition and discussions. The catalyst was the Marple Civic Society, but they will not run it; rather this will be the Forum, consisting of Marple residents.
Details of how Neighbourhood Planning works
Date of next Marple Area Committee – Wed 20 April, starting at 17:30.
