Exchanging words with the new leader, Vince Cable
Lib Dems have a new leader in Vince Cable, with Jo Swinson as his deputy.
Many remember his considered, sage advice during the financial crisis in 2008, being ahead of the government of the day. Being champion of industry, but at the same time promoting equal parental leave and also equal places for women on the top 100 companies’ boards. And of course, his dancing.
He believes that Britain leaving the EU with no replacement treaties and damaged relations with the EU is a bad thing. That no-one talked about the economy in the General Election, but investment is needed for continued growth and for Britain to thrive. That both the Tories and Labour are heading towards extremism, and in Labour in particular, dissent is not tolerated. That the rational centre ground produces ideas that benefit everyone.
In short, a liberal, democratic Britain benefits everyone, not just Lib Dems. And a fairer society.
