Plans for Marple

by Geoff Abell on 24 September, 2017

Post summer, quite a bit is happening in planning that affects us.  Or could affect us.

  1. The big GMSF Greater Manchester plan that proposed 4 large housing areas (including High Lane) and 1 industrial area for large development across Stockport is under review.  The current idea is that consultation responses will be published and there will be a second consultation finishing around June 2018.  Everyone realises that this is a big deal that needs to be got right.  The government are also due to publish on getting the housing numbers sums right – this is the method by which Stockport have determined we need to build 19,300 new homes.
  2. There is a proposal for a new local Stockport plan.  This is probably overdue and will happen even if the GMSF falters.  For details, see
    Local Stockport Plan
  3. Along with this, there will be a refresh of the SEMMMS scheme for transport (SE Manchester multi modal study) that looks at car, HGV, bike and rail transport.  What would you like to see after the new A555 opens?
You are invited to view the consultation documents and submit your comments before 8 Oct here.
(The original South East Manchester Multi-Modal (SEMMM) Strategy was first published in 2001)
  4. And finally, Marple Neighbourhood Plan is well on its way, but the High Lane scheme has just been approved by councillors, and it looks as if there will be another covering the quite different needs of Mellor and Marple Bridge.
  5. You may also have noticed some cameras going up around Marple.  Stockport have engaged a specialist firm to look at movements of cars, lorries, bikes and people for a limited time.  The consequent report should help the way we plan for Marple in the future.

Note

Hard copies of the Issues and Options Paper and accompanying questionnaires will also be available to view at the Council’s main reception at Fred Perry House on Edward Street (between 8:30am and 5pm Monday to Thursday and between 8:30am and 4:30pm on Fridays), and at all libraries in Stockport during their regular opening hours. Completed questionnaires should be handed to library staff or can be posted to:
