Dumping the bumps and Eastwood issues

by Geoff Abell on 6 April, 2018

Colin Macalister reports back from our trip seeing how Bedford avoid speed bumps but still control traffic speeds here.

If you think like us, please sign the petition to encourage Stockport highway officers to think again about speed humps, to dump the bumps!

Meanwhile local Marple North candidate Steve Gribbon has been doing some practical tasks at the bottom of Cross Lane by investigating missing Double Yellow Lines and contacting the owner of the old foundry that has been an anti-social area.  Video here.

Before wasting money on MORE speed bumps the Council should fix the atrocious road problems we have first.

I agree (although of course the funding comes from a different source). Good news – the Lib Dem initiated Highways Improvement Programme (whereby all roads and footpaths are renewed) is still being done by the current Stockport administration. Bad news – Marple South (if memory serves you live there) is NOT on the plan for the next financial year. Also the bad weather has caused some problems, the road surface at the junction of Stockport Road and Cross Lane being one.

My husband is a wheelchair user and I drive him about in a specially adapted vehicle. The problem with this type of traffic calmer is the not just the damage done to the vehicle but the distress caused to the disabled person sitting in a wheelchair who, even though secure, is bounced about. I recognise that speeding is a problem but there other methods of speed control which could be adopted.

Given there has been much discussion about the speed measures on Windlehurst, Hibbert Lane and Andrews Lane and support from councilors for an alternative or at least for their removal (the speed humps that is)…. what’s happening?
